Matchbox is Back! So Long Modular Extensions…

So, for once, my procrastination has paid off! A while back i was complaining, in the most polite way of course, about the lack of development of matchbox. A few days ago Zacharias released Matchbox RC1.  He completely re-wrote it from the ground up and has made it 100% compatible with the latest Codeigniter release.

I downloaded the release candidate from http://codeigniter.com/wiki/Matchbox/, dropped it into a new branch of some projects that use the old version, and was off and running.

As i play with it more i plan to release some of our code like the AMFPHP library as self contained modules that can be dropped into an application.

Thanks again to Zacharias for all your hard work.

Phil

Now it has gone again! So has Modular Separation, merged back into Modular Extensions.

ME is the only live, maintained, CI 1.7.x and 2.0 compatible modular MVC system.

It also supports HMVC but only if you use the MX_Controller which personally I never bother doing. HMVC confuses 99% of developers and breaks a whole bunch of stuff including Form validation callbacks.

    Hi Phil,

I’ve basically been using your ME solution for our CI2 development (I’ve ported almost all of my projects and clients over to CI2). I was really hoping though that CI2 would support modules out of the box – any insight as to why not?.. the newest MX_ updates http://bitbucket.org/wiredesignz/codeigniter-modular-extensions-hmvc/wiki/Home look to be the most reliable/solid – I havn’t re-upgraded yet since i’m in the middle of a project, but hope to dig into it soon.
